Housing Your Turtle Red Eared Slider
Housing your turtle. Red eared slider turtles need a good amount of space. If your turtle will live inside, you'll have to have a suitably sized tank for your turtle. If it is going to live outside, you should build a proper pond with all of the right materials. In addition, you should provide ultraviolet lighting, a basking light, water heater a swimming area and a basking area. Housing a red eared slider can get very expensive!
If you are keeping your turtle indoors, be certain it has enough room. A 20-50 gallon aquarium should be large enough for most red-eared sliders or box turtles. But, of course, if you have more than one, make sure there is enough room for it to be comfortable. In addition, make sure there is plenty of water and attempt to be it as pure as possible. Lighting is also important. Turtles require sunlight for vitamin production and proper bone growth. If turtles don't get natural sunlight, you must get a fluorescent light or other specially designed lights. These will likely be available at your pet store. Turtles must have sunlight for proper bone growth and nutrition. Finally, you need to keep out objects things that could harm the turtle if it eats it, as things like woods chips or other organic materials can be hazardous to your turtle's health. Feeding Your Turtle Red Eared Slider
Feeding your turtle. Red eared slider turtles are mostly herbivorous in the wild and they can be healthy living on a diet of greens or vegetables such as carrots, lettuce or cabbage or fruits including berries. You may also feed your turtle earthworms or live insects including spiders, crickets or beetles. Commercial turtle food is an option in case your turtle isn't getting all of the nutrients they need. But you must keep in mind that turtles are fussy eaters at times, so you will need to learn what is effective for your turtle. The food to feed your turtle and how often you feed them (daily, every other day) depends upon the kind and age of your turtle.
